Fondazione Guido Bernardini is happy to collaborate in the realization of this course, The Francis Crick Institute designed and delivered by the Francis Crick Institute Colony Management Platform.

The training will cover the best practice elements of running a Colony Management (CM) programme, from sourcing and validating your mouse models (via genotyping, genetic monitoring, phenotyping), to optimal management and performance of the lines, as well as breeding cohorts, archiving and rederivation strategies.

The aim of this course is to provide an overview of the aspects that should be considered to ensure mouse lines are characterised thoroughly and can be managed as efficiently as possible for scientific best practice and providing stakeholder value. We will cover the theoretical principles of colony management, and attendees will have the opportunity to analyse and discuss case studies and ask questions to a panel of subject matter experts, in order to acquire essential skills and knowledge to apply in their daily practice relevant to their own institute.

Attendees will have the opportunity to submit samples from their own facilities to Transnetyx for a facility specific genome analysis.  Included within the course costs, all attendees will be provided shipment materials and relevant submission processes so they can send samples from mice within their facilities to analyse their genome using the miniMUGA panel. We will then spend a practical session performing live analysis of your samples to give attendees personally applicable analysis to accompany our own examples.

The course will be run by the Colony Management team from Francis Crick Institute Biological Research Facility (BRF), aiming to provide a discreet, flexible and comprehensive package of support that enables the efficient and effective mouse management of colonies at the Crick. An emphasis on optimising breeding efficiency is placed with a focus on genetic integrity and reducing breeding surplus. We also provide GA breeding support and training to Crick’s scientists. Ensuring reliable and reproducible research and best practice in animal welfare is at the heart of what we do.
